Not quite information but I’ve been playing Assassin’s Creed: Origins recently, purely to experience the recreation of late Ptolemaic and early Roman Egypt.
I recently found Khemenu / Hermopolis on the map. Its one of the most poorly built areas of the game unfortunately. The location is quite inaccurate, with island geography and a huge mountain.
However, there are some lovely baboon Thoth statues at the edge of the city…
There is also a recreation of the temple of Thoth. There is not much left there today so they have embellished it considerably… creating something reminiscent of Abu Simbel.
Not quite the real thing, but a pleasant surprise that I wasn’t necessarily expecting to find.
Thanks for this! I absolutely love the colour combinations that the ancient Egyptians used & I can see those reflected here.
Yes, it’s such a shame that not much has survived of the real temple. Perhaps Thoth would say that the important thing is the surviving knowledge & writings.
Still though, any hints about what it was like helps foster a feeling of connection.
According to my calendar the Wag and Thoth festival approaches! It’s August the 25th for me, but I can’t celebrate it until after this date.
I note that it’s a Blue Moon early in the morning on the 31st. It’s one of the full moons between the summer solstice and the autumn equinox. I aim to celebrate the festival with a ritual and a full moon divination. This festival is a celebration of rebirth and rejuvenation, so I feel that the super blue moon is a good time to celebrate.
And considering the myth where Thoth heals the eye of Horus (full moon) this all seems to work out well for me.
Dua Djehuty and Asir.
Good find! This is only a few days after the heliacal rising of Sopdet in the UK too.
I hope its a good omen.
Dua Djehuty.
Looking it up it seems that Sopdet rises on 30th August in my area!
I was at my shrine yesterday morning and whilst doing my usual offering to Djehuty and Seshat (and talking about the festival), I mentally saw the moon and felt the need to look up the moon phases. I went from there…
